Do You

In lesson 3.7, it states that it is uncommon to use the equivelent of "Do You" when asking questions. Would anyone be good enough to elaborate on that? How then would you ask: Do you have a car? Do you need a taxi? etc. etc. Thanks

Do you have a cat? would be;
Haben sie eine Katze? (formal) would translate to - have you a cat
Hast du eine Katze? (informal)

in the example above, when you ask a question (leave out the "do") the verb comes first (Haben/Hast) then the person (sie/du) then the thing (eine Katze).

Hope this helps...;)

Thank you Bindi, Now I understand. It is the word order that takes a little getting used to!
